VC Sublimation

About Sublimation

The sublimation process dyes white fabric with colour through heat and pressure, which maintains the fabric's wicking characteristics (the ability to breathe and pull moisture through to the surface). Because sublimation dyes each thread of fabric, there is no peeling or flaking, and the material surface is left soft and smooth. The image quality tends to be sharper and more vibrant, allowing for very complex "wrap-around' style graphics.

VC's Sublimation Options

Full-body sublimation involves sublimating as detailed a design as you can think of over every single inch of the jersey. This is done before the garment is sewn together and requires a significant amount of design attention. You are able to use as many colours as you like and any name or number font that you can find.

Spot sublimation is a process by which your design is applied to a smaller area of an already sewn garment. While Spot sublimation is an excellent and afforadble way to increase the quality of your custimization, it does have limitations:

  • Max application area: approx. 15" x 15", although we can do thinner designs that run the full length of the garment.
  • Spot sublimation is really only acceptable on white, or very light colour jerseys as the design will be affected by the colour of the gament.
  • Spot sublimation is quoted specifically based on each job, but the standard charge is $0.40 per square inch. A minimum charge of $5/logo will apply.

What is the benefit of sublimation compared to screen printing?

Screen printing is a process whereby ink is transferred through a screen onto the surface of a garment. This process is used on most standard t-shirts and works very well with simple logos, text and uncomplicated artwork that is limited to certain areas on the garment. It is a very cost and time efficient printing option for most garments and accessories that don’t require complete breatheability. Traditional screen printing covers the fabric with ink, thereby reducing the breatheability of the fabric.
