The Crop Top

For years, VC has offered custom-length jerseys and shorts "unofficially" for special projects.  After receiving great feedback from our community, we officially launched Tall and Short sizes for our Classic Jersey (Relaxed Fit) in March 2023.  The response was overwhelmingly positive, and it led to another request – a cropped length option. 

PROJECT BACKGROUND

We started by asking our community members two simple questions: What products would you crop, and how short should it be?

We’ve seen players adjust their jersey to play in hot weather – tucking, folding, or rolling up the fabric for better airflow.  Using this as a starting point, we measured and tested to find the ideal length that balances both style and functionality.

The key aspects are:

• Enough coverage on the chest and back for your logo and number.
• A flattering fit that sits around the level of the natural waist.

Additionally, we heard many requests for a cropped mesh tank or “pinnie”.  Some loved the idea of a cropped warm-up piece, but weren’t sure about this for their playing jersey.  There are already ambitious players out there who take scissors to their tanks to crop the length themselves!

Lastly, since our Revolution Hoodie is one of the most popular products at events, we wanted to give our community a cropped version of this product as well.

PRODUCT DETAILS

VC is excited to launch three crop products: Classic Jersey, Revolution Hoodie, and Mesh Reversible Tank.

CLASSIC CROP

Lengths: Relaxed - Mid Crop (7” shorter than regular length).  This length will sit just above the hips, covering your navel. Relaxed - Short Crop (10” shorter than regular length).  This length is designed to sit at your natural waist, around your navel. Fitted Crop (8” shorter than regular length) Product page

Available fit: Standard Length: 8” shorter than regular length. Product page

A NOTE ABOUT ARTWORK AND REGULATIONS

If your team wants to order a mix of regular and cropped-length jerseys – no problem!  However, due to the significant difference in length we may need to adjust your artwork.  The extent of these changes will depend on your design:

This 6ixers design requires only minor adjustments.  The bulk of the art is on the upper chest and back, and there is plenty of room for the logo, name, and numbers.

Our Hokusai design required a more drastic adjustment.  Most of the artwork elements are on the lower body, so for the crop version we moved the waves up to the chest.

There are also considerations if you want to use a crop top as your playing jersey for certain levels of play.

WFDF requires that uniforms cover the chest and abdomen: “C2.1.  A uniform must consist of, at minimum, a shirt to cover the chest and abdomen, and clothing to cover the lower torso and upper legs.”

Ultimate Canada and USAU regulations do not specifically address body coverage, but they do state that the design must be consistent across all jersey styles for a team.  So, if you plan to mix regular and cropped jerseys, the artwork should be as similiar as possible (like the 6ixers example above).
