Toronto 6ixers hope to improve on an already successful 2017 season

The Toronto 6ixers, a VC sponsored team, had their season debut this past weekend, participating in the oddly-competitive New York Warm-up. The competition was fierce, boasting teams such as Canadian rivals Iris, and American powerhouses like Brute Squad and Scandal, but the 6ixers were ready to continue showcasing they are a top-level women's team in the club scene.

Unsurprisingly, the team had some rust to shake off at the beginning of the tournament: "Between debuting 5 new rookies, missing 4 key players, swapping several players between our O and D [lines], and working out the kinks in a new offence, we knew there would be some bumps in the road for us" says Jordan Meron, who is currently starting her third year as a captain for the team.

Although dropping an early game to Iris, the 6ixers demonstrated excellent mental toughness and bounced back to win their first ever game against DC Scandal, a team that is regarded as one of the best in the USAU circuit. Meron saw this as a clear sign for great things to come: "While we don't have that consistency yet, it's obvious to me that we are going to see new powerhouse combinations coming out of the woodwork."

With new players like Sara Mar, and Sarah Kidd making an immediate impact on the field, new captains Laura Kinoshita and Lauren Kimura bringing a fresh look to the leadership, and coaches Carla DiFillipo and Evan "Dime" Phillips pushing the team to be innovative in their style of play, the 6ixers are looking to turn heads this season: "While we're taking it one step and a time and not looking too far ahead, we're definitely planning to make some noise at WUCC and pick up some big wins against big-league international opponents, aiming to secure a spot in the quarterfinals" says Meron. "We absolutely plan to leave our mark in Cincinnati."
