About Chupzi Lema
Chupzi started playing ultimate with Georgia Tech Wreck in Spring 2017 during her second year of college. She went on to captain Wreck from Spring 2018 to Spring 2020. When she isn't playing frisbee with GTWreck, you can catch her playing with Atlanta Bucket or Atlanta Soul. She has also played with Atlanta Outbreak and Atlanta Heartbreakers.
VC Takeovers
Her first takeover, sharing her experience with racism as a youth, was August 10th. We encourage you to visit the VC Ultimate (@vcultimate) Twitter page to read back through her threads.
As part of her contract, VC is making a donation to Chupzi's organization of choice each week, starting with the Loveland Foundation.
Loveland Foundation is committed to showing up for communities of color in unique and powerful ways, with a particular focus on Black women and girls. Our resources and initiatives are collaborative and they prioritize opportunity, access, validation, and healing. We are becoming the ones we’ve been waiting for.
You can follow Chupzi's Twitter account @chupzi. To see Chupzi in action on the ultimate field, check out her Callahan video as Georgia Tech's 2020 nominee.
August 17th Update
Chupzi took over our channel again yesterday to talk about her experience with racism in ultimate.
This week, Chupzi chose The Okra Project to support. Learn more about The Okra Project, and support directly if you can, here.
The Okra Project is a collective that seeks to address the global crisis faced by Black Trans people by bringing home cooked, healthy, and culturally specific meals and resources to Black Trans People wherever we can reach them.
August 24th Update
Yesterday's takeover started with a powerful reminder: Our work is far, far from done.
You can follow along with Chupzi's tweets throughout the day starting here. If we want to improve the experience of Black girls in athletics, we need to start talking about the inequities - and blatant racism - that exists. We need to do better for the next generation.
For this week's donation, Chupzi has identified the Black Women in Sport Foundation. Please visit them and join us in supporting directly, if you can.
