Let's Talk About Art

As we hope you all know, VC takes design very, very seriously. We want to offer brilliant designs on all VC gear, whether it be for our own apparel available online and at events, on tournament merchandise, or to our customers for their custom apparel projects.

Design Types Decoded

First, let's talk about the different type of design work we do at VC: Creative and Technical.

Creative Art

Creative art is the creation and execution proper of the idea. This means creative art takes a vision – notes, reference images, colour palette, etc – and brings it to digital life on the screen, combining ideas/colours/patterns/logos/text/fonts together onto our design template.

VC has a team of creative artists to help realize your vision, and offers complimentary design services to render your idea digitally (for order aspects 15+ units). 

Technical Art

Technical art ensures the created idea will actually print as intended, and according to uniform regulations. 

This includes colour correction (colours shown on screen often do not match perfectly to printed colours), confirming size and position of logos, numbers, and main design elements, scaling designs to fit different sizes within a style, creating different apparel style files using a supplied design, and placing unique numbers and names on each jersey's file.

The VC team is the best around when it comes to understanding a customer's example and making it a reality. Here is a great example of a team's creative idea rendered by VC's technical art experts.

Design Services Broken Down

If we could offer free design on all projects of all sizes, we would - but it's impossible given how much we invest in our artists. We unfortunately have also run into many situations when customers (usually unintentionally) use a lot of creative art time because they haven't made the effort to refine their vision or taken time to decide on specific details. 

Creative Art Fees

VC’s complimentary design service is offered for orders of 15+ units of the same design, and is based on order size:

• 15 to 49 units – 2 free hours
• 50 – 99 units – 3 free hours
• 100+ units – 4 free hours

Extra hours, or creative art services for order aspects under 15 units, are billed at $40/hour.

Technical Art Fees

As with creative art, VC offers complimentary technical art services on order aspects of 15+ units.

For orders under 15 units, the cost of technical art time is unsustainable relative to the revenue from an order, thus a mandatory fee applies (noted/quoted as a "sublimation setup fee").

A frequent example of complimentary Technical Art is spreading a singular design across a variety of styles.
