Re-introducing the Classic
The Classic jersey brought sublimation to the foreground of ultimate apparel ~2009 when we removed one of the side seams to better showcase wraparound designs.
The Classic has been a favourite of designers ever since, and players all around the world have expressed their love for its fit; re-envisioning the Classic style as a gender-free fit was a daunting task.

The Classic Goes Gender-Free
We announced our intention to transition VC apparel to gender-free fits on December 8, 2018. Four years plus one pandemic later, it's finally done. Read all the background and about our new Fitted fit In the post, Fitted Fit.
The Classic was originally available in "women's" and "men's" sizing, being quite narrow/snug and relaxed in how it they fit, respectively.
As we always do, we started the process of transitioning these fits and sizes to be more inclusive to all genders, we asked folks who didn't like their fit.
The main feedback received when we asked a range of players from all genders with different body shapes to try on both fits was:
- The "men's" sizing and fit met expectations closely, with two exceptions:
- Overall the jersey fit a bit big and often players needed to go down a size, and
- Players who had shorter and wider body types found jerseys that were the right width, too long. Similarly, much taller players found themselves swimming in the larger sizes required to accommodate their height.
- The "women's" sizing was a bit too small overall, and too snug in width for larger-chested players.
- Also, players with broader shoulders needed more width across the chest area to feel comfortable.
The Relaxed Classic
Ultimately, we kept the sizing from our "men's" cut the same - on the advice of players from all genders who wanted a "relaxed" fitting jersey... hence the new fit name, Relaxed.
To meet the demands of our testers, two custom length options have been added for sublimated Relaxed Classics: Short and Tall.
If you wore a "men's" Classic before and liked the fit, order the same size in Relaxed.
The Relaxed Tall sizes have a 2" longer body. The Relaxed Short sizes have a 2" shorter body. Sleeve length is also adjusted proportionally for long sleeves.
The sleeve length of the short sleeves does not change on these custom length versions of the jersey.
The Fitted Classic
For the full story on the Fitted Fit, we invite you to read our announcement post with the extremely clever name, The Fitted Fit.
Most players who previously wore our "women's" sizing, and liked the size they used to order, can continue to order the same size. We have adjusted how much the body length grades for each size to accommodate a larger range of lengths. If you wore the XS or S in our previous "women's" sizing and liked the length of these, we would recommend you double check the size charts. Fitted sizes M and larger are comparable to our previous "women's" sizing.
We invite players who previously didn't enjoy our "women's" sizing due to the gendered traits of the old fit to give the new Fitted Classic a try - lots of improvements to be enjoyed by snugger-fit-loving players of all genders.

PS - A Quick Note about the Fitted/Standard/Raglan Fits
It's worth noting that we have two main jersey styles, the Classic (discussed here) and the Raglan jersey. The sizing of these two styles are not exactly the same because we're doing our best to design fits that will work for as many players as possible.
The Classic style has:
- Fitted sizes: X-Small to XXXX-Large
- Relaxed sizes:
- X-Small to XXXX-Large
- Short X-Small to XXXX-Large
- Tall X-Small to XXXX-Large
The Raglan style has:
- Fitted sizes: X-Small to XXXX-Large
- Standard sizes: XX-Small to XXXX-Large
